UAB School of Public Health

Health Behavior

Health Behavior students learn to develop behavior change programs utilizing theories and methods from the social and behavioral sciences. Students also learn state-of the-art techniques and methods for health program evaluation. Our students are encouraged to become involved with faculty research projects on health-related issues such as HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, tobacco and other substance use, poor dietary practices, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and intentional or unintentional injuries. Our research projects aim to improve the health and well-being of children, adolescents, the elderly, minorities and other populations.

2013 AHA Heart Walk

It’s time to support the local American Heart Association’s Heart Walk.  The UAB SOPH did a wonderful job last year with fundraising and participation and this year we will do even better!

The Heart Walk will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the new Uptown Entertainment District (near the Westin Hotel).  Festivities will begin at 7:30am and the walk/run (5K or 1 mile option) will begin at 8:30am.  Family members and friends are welcome.

In Memoriam
On Tuesday, May 14, the School of Public Health lost a cherished friend and colleague with the passing of Dr. Michael Foster.  Dr. Foster was a professor in the Department of Health Care Organization and Policy; he joined the School in 2011 from UNC Chapel Hill and was recently awarded the Distinguished Faculty Investigator Award. He was an outstanding collaborator, teacher, mentor, and colleague, who will deeply missed by us all.
